Does anyone know exactly what fasfa is and how it works? Like if your parents make a certain amount a year, they accommodate to that certain income range?

That’s the gist of it. Your parents fill out their income information and the government will give you money based on need. It’s probably not going to be enough to cover your whole tuition but if you qualify it’ll definitely help!

Awesome, thank you!

To add to what Jocelyn said, FAFSA can award grants (essentially free money based on your family’s income level) and federal loans. You should receive some combination of these things from FAFSA.

After filling out the FAFSA, you will receive an “estimated family contribution” which is what their algorithm decides your family is capable of paying for college. Sadly most college students end up paying more than that. If your family contribution is really low (this usually happens when your family’s income is in the lowest range) you will be eligible for a pell grant, which is around $5k a year of federal aid. I am a low-income student who receives a pell grant. If you have more questions about paying for college please contact me!

Alright, thanks for adding on!

Is the pell grant the most they reward? Like what is the monetary range for the aid? Thank you for explaining!!
